Quick answer
A Bitcoin QR code uses the BIP 21 payment format: your wallet address plus an optional amount, recipient name and message. Scanning it with a wallet app fills in the payment.
Payments to a wrong address can’t be reversed. Paste the address from your wallet and scan the downloaded code with your own wallet before sharing it.
The code contains a standard bitcoin: payment link with your address and, optionally, an amount and a label. People scan it from inside their wallet app, which fills in the payment for them to confirm.
A phone camera on its own may not know what to do with a bitcoin link, so tell people to open their wallet and use its scan button.
Send yourself a very small test payment before printing. In public places, check printed payment codes regularly for stickers placed over them.
Most Bitcoin wallets support BIP 21 QR codes.
